With Pilot Talk 3 now less than a month away, the most consistent rapper from New Orleans is back with more product. Curren$y's video for "Audio Dope 5" has fiends sleeping outside for it like they're waiting on Jordans, pounding on doors after hours, plotting on get-back schemes. As usual, Ski's beat rattles like it's been watching Scarface on perpetual loop. Spitta is as composed as ever; the tired trope of music as dope is just a loose framework for him to do the molasses drawl thing.

The third installment in the Pilot Talk series has a lot to live up to. The first, released in 2010, acted as the catalyst for Curren$y's rise to hip-hop's touring MVP spot. The pairing with Ski paid immediate dividends, making for a warm, lush listen, turning Spitta's Cash Money and No Limit also-ran status on its ear. Not only that, but it helped cement his image for national audiences; not only did veterans like Snoop Dogg and Mos Def make appearances, but so did Devin The Dude, the forefather of Curren$y's cult stoner hero appeal. (Additionally, he showed an ear to the streets by tapping up-and-comers like Big KRIT and Jay Electronica.) The third installment of the acclaimed series is due out at the beginning of next month, on Apr. 4. Be sure to check Spitta on the Pilot Talk III Tour kicking off at the end of this month (see below).
