Chris Martin and Jay-Z may be good buddies, but to let Hov tell it, their friendship wouldn't have been possible during the rapper's hustler days. Last year, the God MC told the UK's The Daily Mirror that he most likely would have told the Coldplay front man to ante up had they bumped into one another in their younger years.

"I would have been, 'Yo! Who are you? Give me your money,'" Jay told the Mirror. "You couldn't have a guy like Chris walking through Marcy. He'd have to get robbed. At best."

Martin responded to Hov's comments in the November issue of XXL.

"He definitely wouldn’t have taken my sneakers because mine were always a lot too dirty for him," Martin told XXL jokingly. "I don’t know. He wouldn’t have touched me then. He’s too sweet underneath. I don’t believe that from him."

"I never even thought I’d make it to America," he continued. "So the chances of us meeting then are slim."

Martin is featured in the November issue of XXL, where he speaks about listening to hip-hop for inspiration and addresses Kanye West's "I told Jay I got a song with Coldplay/Next thing you know he got a song with Coldplay" lyric on Graduation's "Big Brother."  The issue also celebrates the 20-year anniversary of Nas's career with an interview with Odd Future leader, Tyler, the Creator. —Carl Chery
