The Beast Coast concert scheduled for Sunday night (Aug. 11) in Detroit was canceled after two separate phone call threats involving a potential mass shooting at the show's venue Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre.

According to a report ClickOnDetroit.com published on Monday, the two phone calls came to Detroit's Auburn Hills and Sterling Heights police departments on Sunday morning.

"Obviously in today's world and thing going on recently, we have to take each threat seriously," Sheriff Anthony Wickersham told the news outlet. "We were going to put additional deputies and undercover officers in and around the venue, and later this afternoon I found out the event was canceled."

In a statement, Beast Coast's promoters 313 Presents, a group that also provides security, announced that Beast Coast—a collective featuring Joey Bada$$, members of his Pro Era collective, The Flatbush Zombies and The Underachievers—had canceled their performance.

"Due to unforeseen circumstances tonight's beast coast 'Escape From New York Tour' is canceled --- tickets can be refunded at point of purchase -- tickets purchased by phone or online will be automatically refunded."

Wickersham said that police passed along the information to the promoters and they made the decision to cancel the show on their own. "They were just provided with the information that was currently available. Again, these were two separate threats that came in and both were being investigated," he said.

Flatbush Zombies, who dropped their album Escape From New York in May, hopped on Twitter Sunday afternoon to apologize about the show's cancellation. "Apologies to all our fans...," they tweeted.

As ClickOnDetroit pointed out, when it comes to threats of mass shootings, some would say that it's better to be safe than sorry.

"Today we take every threat seriously and will investigate and do what we can to protect people," added Wickersham.
