Amir Obe is clearly gunning to corner the market on the gloomy anthem. The lovesick Detroit singer drops "No Peace" this month (Sept. 9) Like many of his melancholy cuts, Amir's newest track is produced by NYLZ, the same beat smith who helped the singer out with much of his last two projects, Won't Find Love in the Hills and Happening In The Grey Area.

"Put a ring on your middle finger, fuck you/Hope it stings just a little when it cuts through/Kept it distant from the women that be telling lies/All them stories you ain't told, you can tell 'em now," sings Obe in the opening verse.

Halfway through the song, the drumbeat switches up for what seems to bring a totally different feeling to Amir's lyrics. The reggae vibe is a welcomed surprise.

"It’s the back and forth of a tortured love. A woman pulling me into her depths and unknowingly drowning me in the process. This is an expression of my suffocation," he told Fader when the track premiered.

When XXL caught up with Detroit-hailing sad-boy for The Break earlier this year, the 26-year-old admitted his music and style have drawn many comparisons to OVO stars like PartyNextDoor, but he assured he's determined to carve his own lane for himself in new age R&B.

"I don’t think I’ll be the next anybody, especially with the new music we’re making is a little more experimental," said Amir. "I just think we’re going to have our own space in music."
