Akon is sure to catch some flack for his brazen opinion about President Donald Trump. The "Locked Up" singer told TMZ that Trump is the most courageous president in history of the United States.

“I respect him. I honestly believe he’s probably the most courageous president to ever hit the office,” Akon said. “But at the same time, I also believe that if you’re gonna be a strong leader, you also have to be compassionate. And you have to think about the people’s wellbeing and the process of as you’re doing things because it’s one thing to be tough. But everybody knows a bully, one day, will be taken down. It’s just a matter of time."

Akon, who is Muslim, downplayed Trump's controversial executive order barring citizens of seven predominantly Muslim countries from entering the United States for a 90-day period. Still, the singer acknowledged that Trump could learn a lesson from former President Barack Obama and be less antagonistic.

"We don’t want our president to be looked at as a bully or someone that’s gonna say, ‘My way or no way,'" Akon said. "We want him to be able to negotiate on behalf of the people, but at the same time keeping our integrity in a great place.”

Akon's support of Donald Trump adds him to a very small list of hip-hop artists backing the new president. Kanye West and Azealia Banks have also shown their support for Trump despite facing heavy criticism for doing so.
