A$AP Rocky has plead not guilty to second-degree robbery stemming from his arrest on Thursday night (July 19).

According to TMZ, A$AP, real name Rakim Mayers, plead not guilty to trying to rob the photographers last week. Ditto for his fellow A$AP Mob crew member, A$AP Bigga Bar$, real name Sheldon Jabari.

In the wee hours of Friday morning (July 20), the celebrity news website broke the news about the Harlem rapper taken into New York Police Department custody after he and a friend allegedly beat two people up who were taking pictures of him in the Downtown Manhattan section of the city.

TMZ said that A$AP had gotten into an argument with someone, when two civilians began snapping photos of him. That apparently didn’t sit too well with Rocky, who turned his attention to the amateur photographers and went after them. Sources told TMZ that the two victims suffered cuts and bruises, one even needing hospital treatment.

Earlier last week, stage manager Anthony Montalbano sued the Harlem crew for “beating the hell out of him on stage” at last October’s Fader Fort Music Festival, all according to Courthouse News.

He claims to have needed 10 stitches in the head afterwards.

His legal complaint also stated:

“Plaintiff [Montalbano] was then grabbed by the defendants and continuously punched in the face and head for several minutes and said defendants hit plaintiff in the head with a microphone. Plaintiff was covered in blood and sustained serious and lasting injuries, including but not limited to an open scalp wound, concussion, abrasions, lacerations and pain in his head, neck, back, knees and ribs.”

Montalbano is seeking compensatory and punitive damages.—Jakinder Singh
