21 Savage Gets His First Platinum Record With “X”
21 Savage has his first platinum record with "X," Billboard confirming that the single has sold over a million equivalent units since its July 15 release.
The song, which features Future, comes from Savage Mode, 21's collab album with Metro Boomin. Metro's actually credited as a co-artist, so he's eating nice off this too.
And they're probably dropping more heat on us soon. 21 and Metro have 20-30 new songs together that they might or might not make Savage Mode 2 out of. The Atlanta rapper also has a bunch of work recorded with Southside, which might become its own project.
21's already had four songs pop up on the Hot 100: "X" and "No Heart" as well as verses on Drake's "Sneakin" and Meek Mill's "Offended." The first three are still sitting comfortably on the chart as of publication.
What's more, 21 did it all without a major label deal. In a recent Fader interview, 21 said he wasn't much interested in a traditional deal with a major, though he did say he may seek distribution for his Slaughter Gang crew.
Billboard also points out "X" has been helped in large part by Soundcloud streams. The song has gained 48.4 million streams on that one platform so far, sitting at No. 2 for most songs played on Soundcloud in the past week with 2.22 million streams.
You can pretty much guarantee that "X" video is coming now.
