Hip-hop and the world of art have always been intertwined. From the onset of the culture, the Zulu Nation established graffiti as one of the five pillars that helped to define the high-level concept of hip-hop. Throughout the years, graffiti evolved from simple tags to more elaborate pieces of art, which ran the gambit from searing political messages to portraiture. As figures and collectors in the visual arts community became enthralled with the work, street artists fought for acceptance and legitimacy in the world of fine arts. This was a battle that they won. The result is that artists like Banksy are now selling pieces for millions in upscale galleries.

With the inevitable rise of street art as a mainstream genre and with hip-hop being so influential within contemporary culture, it didn't take long before the music began to influence artists all over the world. What we're finding now is that a brilliant marriage of traditional visual arts and street art, along with hip-hop culture, has resulted in a slew of interesting new work that is currently dominating social media. For example, Macklemore's painting of naked Justin Bieber with flap-jack genitals, and the life-size mural of Kanye West kissing himself.

It would appear that in some instances, hip-hop-influenced artwork is becoming weirder as artists fight for notoriety in a "do-it-for-the-'Gram" world. Want to see the best of the best? Forget a trip to the art district, here at XXL we've compiled a gallery of hip-hop artwork featuring Yeezy, Jay Z, Desiigner and more that's weird, original -- and in a few cases -- just plain humorous. Enjoy.
