Watch ILoveMemphis “Hit the Quan” in New Video

The 24-hour news cycle threatens to swallow all of us whole, and most artists and record labels have learned to act fast. Surprise drops, truncated promotional periods, overnight successes. So it would seem that waiting until mid-November to drop the video for a surprise summer hit would be a mistake. But in the case of iLoveMemphis and his viral sensation "Hit the Quan," the extra wait period adds an extra dimension to the visuals. The iLoveMemphis we see hear is already an online star, and sees his dance spreading across Tennessee and the nation write large. Yet 2015 hasn't been the Cinderella story that the up-and-coming artist might have hoped: the rapper, whose real name is Richard Colbert, has been charged alongside another man in an alleged gang rape incident. Colbert denies any wrongdoing and is awaiting trial.
