Uncle Luke Calls Out Jay-Z for Super Bowl Halftime Performer Selections, Says Rapper Violated the G-Code
Uncle Luke has a bone to pick with Jay-Z.
Last week, the NFL announced that Jennifer Lopez and Shakira will be the performers for the halftime show at the 2020 Super Bowl, which will take place at the Hard Rock Stadium, Miami Gardens, Fla., on Feb. 2, 2020.
On Monday (Sept. 30), Luke, who is a Miami native, penned a pointed Miami New Times editorial calling out the NFL and Jay-Z because they didn't choose any Miami artists for the performance.
"Neither Lopez nor Shakira is from Miami," Luke says. "Lopez and Shakira don't get involved in social issues that concern the community. They don't volunteer to help the needy. To me, that's a settler. This Super Bowl is supposed to be about showcasing Miami for more reasons than one."
Luke adds that Hov should have called him before letting the NFL announce their Super Bowl halftime performers.
"Jay-Z is in violation of the G code," Luke writes. "When you go into another man's city, you are supposed to consult with him. In this case Jay-Z should've had a conversation with me before coming up with this ludicrous idea. The NFL is disrespecting the hard work of Black entertainers who have made Miami the center of the rap game."
"On the NFL Network, league officials said the show is going to promote Latinx culture because Miami is all about Hispanic people," he continued. "That's a slap in the face to the African-American community, which includes a diverse mix of Bahamian, Jamaican, and Haitian people."
Uncle Luke's editorial follows behind his rant that he left on his Instagram page last Friday (Sept. 27). In the clip, the 2 Live Crew frontman said that the NFL should have tapped Miami artists for their halftime show.
“We got whole-class entertainment here [in Miami],” he said. “I would have thought you have sense to go and get Pitbull, Florida, Ross or somebody, Trick Daddy or something. Really?”
“Jay-Z you gotta fix this shit, I’m just going to keep it one hundred,” added Luke.
The NFL nor Jay-Z has responded to Uncle Luke’s grievance over the Super Bowl halftime performers. Watch his video below.
