Watch This Special Moment Between Tupac Shakur and His Mom From ‘All Eyez on Me’ Biopic
With a little over a month before the release of the highly-anticipated Tupac Shakur biopic, All Eyez on Me, the prospect of actually getting a dope film about the rap icon has fans salivating. Today (May 14), we get a new snippet from the forthcoming flick.
Seeing as it's Mother's Day, the new preview fittingly shows a touching interaction between 'Pac and his late mother Afeni Shakur. In the clip, 'Pac, played by Demetrius Shipp Jr., and Afeni, played by Danai Gurira, have a conversation following what looks like a birthday party. As the scene plays out, 'Pac inquires about his mom's well-being.
"I'm taking it one day at a time. Trying to keep it all together," she says nearly breaking down.
"You always got it together," he responds. "I wouldn't be the man I am without you," he adds.
Touching mother and son moments like these are no doubt what led to tracks like "Dear Mama."
More and more snippets are starting to leak out from the highly anticipated film. Back in February, the film's creators cranked up the buzz with a new trailer. That one showed clips of Tupac getting arrested, his prison stint and alliance with Death Row Records. It also shows a glimpse into one of the more interesting aspects of 'Pac's life and times, his interactions with The Notorious B.I.G., played by Jamal Woolard.
A few days ago, another trailer debuted, which shows the movie's depiction of 'Pac's relationship with actress, Jada Pinkett Smith. The Benny Boom-directed film hits theaters on June 16, Tupac's birthday.
Recently news surfaced that a new Tupac documentary is in the works. Esteemed 12 Years a Slave director, Steve McQueen is set to direct the project. “I am extremely moved and excited to be exploring the life and times of this legendary artist,” McQueen said of his involvement. “I attended NYU film school in 1993 and can remember the unfolding hip-hop world and mine overlapping with Tupac’s through a mutual friend in a small way. Few, if any shined brighter than Tupac Shakur. I look forward to working closely with his family to tell the unvarnished story of this talented man,” he added.
