Starlito and Scarface Finally Collab on “Once Upon a Time”
It feels like we should have gotten a Starlito and Scarface collab years ago. The latter is the progenitor of depressed raps that deal with inner psychological issues, and Lito has carried that torch, making some of the most vulnerable rap the game has had to offer for years now. Now, for the first time, they're rapping together over a fantastic Trakksounds beat, and XXL is proud to premiere the track, complete with a chorus from Kam Franklin, below.
The track is the first single from frequent Lito collaborator Trakksounds' upcoming album The Other Side dropping at the end of March. He told XXL how he brought Lito and Face together for the record: "I heard Lito say on "Something for Nothing" on Stepbrothers 2 "maybe a track with Scarface and Baby Face will help" and I always wanted to put that combo together. Face works in the same studio as me and so his engineer (Steve-O) and I kept putting a bug in his ear about Star. I knew they would fit perfect together and once Face heard the record it was over. Two of my favorite artists ever on the same track along with Kam Franklin, who is my favorite singer right now, came out exactly how I envisioned."
Lito tries to trace how he got to this point in his life on the first verse, but it's Face who takes your breath away as he attempts to put into words what can't be spoken about: "At an early age, I was plagued with what you couldn't play with/And regardless of what you've seen, you couldn't say shit."
The Other Side is also set to feature collabs by Devin Tha Dude and Kirko Bangz ("11:15"), Maxo Kream and Xavier Wulf ("Active") and A$AP Ferg, Maxo Kream and Killa Kyleon ("Never Tipsy"). You can cop "Once Upon a Time" on iTunes starting at 11 p.m. EST tonight.
And this is only the beginning for Starlito in 2017. Just today, he announced Stepbrothers 3 is dropping in March.
