Smokepurpp, Lil Durk, Stormzy and More: New Projects This Week
Several anticipated projects premiered over the course of the last seven days. Look below to check out all of the freshly released albums, mixtapes, EPs and projects of the week.
Q4 is nearing its end and with it comes the highly anticipated release of Deadstar 2, Smokepurpp's debut studio album. Unlike the first installment, which was released as a commercial mixtape, the second-coming is several steps ahead of its predecessor. The Alamo Records rapper, who recenlty participated in our Mean Comments series, has been teasing the follow-up for nearly a year, leaving his fans restless at times for its arrival. Ahead of Deadstar 2's arrival, Purpp dropped trap bangers like the Lil Skies collab "Dirty Dirty," "Audi 2," "Stevie" and "What I Please" with Denzel Curry.
Purpp's fellow Alamo labelmate Lil Durk and his Only The Family label also unleash the Family Over Everything compilation this week. The 16-track project features artists signed to Durk's OTF label like Memo600 and Booka600, while some bigger names like G Herbo, Polo G and Lil Tjay also appear on the LP. Street tales and reality-driven rhymes are replete across tracks such as "Brazy Krazy," "Career Day" and "Fake Love."
Brit-bred rapper Stormzy returns with his second studio album, Heavy Is the Head, his first complete LP since 2017's Gang Signs & Prayer. The album includes singles like thumping "Crown" and the driving banger "Own It," which features Ed Sheeran and Burna Boy. Other features on the record include H.E.R., Headie One and Yebba.
