Making a name for himself since 2015, Slayter has finally found his groove. “I can see my sound growing,” he tells XXL. “I’m finding a sound that makes sense.” One thing that has always made sense for the Cinematic Music Group signee has been his ability to craft quality bars. The MC from New York City's Uptown section of Dyckman recently put his skills to the test for XXL's What I Do series.

“I hop on these tracks and I’m honest,” raps Slayter. “We be in the hood, come and find us/I be in Miami so much I get bored and I be catching iguanas/Niggas they bite like piranhas/I put YSL on my mama.”

It’s a Dirty Game and Slayter knows how to play it. “Niggas don’t like me staring/If I get mad I’m gonna air him/Nigga try me, then I dare them/I run the block like an errand/I spent three bands on my earrings/So when they talk, I don’t hear them/Niggas act tough, I don’t hear them,” he spits.

Although he has years of putting in work under his belt, Slayter considers his latest project his first serious release. “I actually took time to make this project,” he says when discussing Cold At Night, his latest mixtape featuring contributions from producer Ducko Mcfli, Lil Gotit and G Herbo, who appears on the project’s title track. “I use go in the studio like five times a year and be like ‘This is my mixtape.’ This time I was in the studio like five times a week.”

Equipped with a new approach, the “New Money” spitter represents for Uptown with his What I Do freestyle. Check it out below.
