Rich Homie Quan Apologizes for Messing Up Biggie’s Lyrics During 2016 VH1 Hip Hop Honors Performance
The 2016 VH1 Hip Hop Honors were all about the ladies, but in the midst of an evening of big winners, Rich Homie Quan was the clear and definite loser. Last night (July 11) Rich Homie was performing with honoree Lil Kim when he messed up the lyrics to Notorious B.I.G's verse on “Get Money.” With Biggie Smalls being a legend in the rap game, people's reactions online to the live performance ranged from confused to infuriated. It was pretty bad.
Brooklyn born MC Joey Bada$$ called out RHQ for this faux pas, saying what he did is representative of "everything that's wrong with hip-hop." People went as far as to make memes and create the hashtag #RichHomieKaraoke to try and figure out what the "Flex" rapper was actually rapping up there because it sure wasn't Biggie's bars.
After the Internet's rap fans came for him with virtual pitchforks for hours once the show was over, RHQ knew he had to say something. And now he has.
"I assure you that I never intended to disrespect Biggie Smalls," wrote the Atlanta-hailing spitter in an Instagram post. "I have long respected his work and his contribution to the rap game.I greatly apologize not only to Biggie Smalls, but also to all of my fans and to New York. The city of New York has been nothing but good to me. I felt honored to stand on stage with artists I grew up listening to.Once on stage I had some technical difficulties and must admit I got nervous.I will forever be sorry to New York, my fans, Biggie Small, Lil Kim, and all the Hip Hop community for my performance. I hope you can accept my apology. To Lil Kim, Thank you for the opportunity."
