7 Remixes to Playboi Carti’s “Magnolia” You Need to Hear
Playboi Carti's "Magnolia" is blowing up. The standout single off Carti's self-titled debut mixtape is getting crazy buzz and is definitely a top contender for 2017's song of the summer. The party-starting tune produced by newcomer Pierre Bourne has helped the 2017 XXL Freshman put his stamp on hip-hop early in his career. The song has not only become a summertime anthem for Carti's fans, but it's also allowed the rapper to make a crossover into mainstream. The banger currently sits at No. 29 on the Billboard Hot 100.
"The first time I talked to [Carti], he called me like, 'Bro, I love your beats, man. We gotta cook up. I’ll be back in the A soon,'" Pierre Bourne told XXL when Carti's tape dropped in April. "He was telling me he was about to move back to the A and everything. So I knew this going into February, so I just made sure I had some beats for him. And he started hitting me up to come to the studio."
Rappers know when to hop on a hot beat when they hear one and "Magnolia" is no exception. Within a month of the ATL rapper's debut tape dropping, K Camp released his own funny freestyle over the signature beat. Other rappers like Tory Lanez, Juelz Santana and Styles P soon followed. The latest artist to put his own twist on the beat is none other than Lil Wayne. Tunechi initially only shared a snippet of his freestyle, and now the complete version is here. Fans are already hyped off the track—especially since the original song lyrics are inspired by New Orleans’ infamous Magnolia projects in Weezy's hometown.
“In New York I Biggie rock, plants in my sock/She running from the cop and when I shoot I pop,” raps Weezy F. Baby.
