Nipsey Hussle Bodies Freestyle Over Nas’ “If I Ruled the World”
Fresh off dropping his highly anticipated Victory Lap album, Nipsey Hussle pulls up on Funk Master Flex and Hot 97 to deliver an epic freestyle session. The victim? Nas' classic It Was Written track, "If I Ruled the World."
Over the course of just about six minutes, Nipsey lays out verses about death being "the price of war" and "Gang members spending thousands at the nicest stores." In pretty much every stanza, he juxtaposes the glamor of gang culture with the grim reality of street life.
"Nothing can save us, and we realized it/We knew the outcome, and we still tried it/That South Central state of mind, 'I'm in the field' logic/To be real rider you took the shit to the extreme or you ain't feel honest/Now this blood that's on your hands, you hope these bills wash it," he spits on the timeless instrumental.
Nipsey's spent much of the last few weeks celebrating the coming of his debut, but unfortunately, the Victory Lap release party ended in chaos. During the party, which took place in Venice Beach, Calif.'s World of Wheels, a roller skating rink last Saturday (Feb. 17), gunfire erupted. One person was struck in their thigh by a bullet, but chose not to cooperate with the police. The alleged shooter presumably remains at large.
