Pharrell sat down with GQ to discuss a multitude of talking points from women to his sophomore album G I R L. But one topic that he touched on that is very interesting is his feelings of his is 2006 debut In My Mind. He admitted that In My Mind had no purpose and he wrote the songs on the album out of ego. "I wrote those songs out of ego,” Pharrell says. “Talking about the money I was making and the by-products of living that lifestyle. What was good about that? What’d you get out of it? There was no purpose. I was so under the wrong impression at that time.”

He continues on to say that “I didn’t realize you should have a purpose. I thought you just did it just to do it.”
