It would be hard for anyone to argue Missy Elliott is not an innovator and influencer in hip-hop culture and fashion. The hitmaker provided us with tons of smash records over the past two decades and has worked her way to becoming an iconic female figure in the genre. ELLE Magazine has just released their June 2017 copy and recruited the super producer to cover their Women in Music issue.

The cover of the magazine shows Missy donned in Marc Jacobs gear from the designer's hip-hop-inspired Fall 2017 collection, following the rapper's appearance in his Fall 2016 campaign alongside the likes of Susan Sarandon, Marilyn Manson and Courtney Love. For the fashion magazine's cover, the "Work It" MC is wearing a Marc Jacobs tracksuit, along with a Stephen Jones for Marc Jacobs hat.

During her interview with the magazine, Missy speaks on a slew of topics, including wearing her famous "plastic bag suit" in her music video for "The Rain [Supa Dupa Fly]."

"To me, the outfit was a way to mask my shyness behind all the chaos of the look. Although I am shy, I was never afraid to be a provocative woman. The outfit was a symbol of power. I loved the idea of feeling like a hip-hop Michelin woman. I knew I could have on a blow-up suit and still have people talking. It was bold and different. I’ve always seen myself as an innovator and a creative unlike any other," she reflected.

Missy also spoke on gaining publicity in the social media era and how she refuses to lower her own standards and values for the sake of building her legacy.

"One thing I won’t do is compromise. I will never do something based on what everybody else is telling me to do. And have to kick myself in the ass every night. Nah. I have to make sure that it’s right. I’ve been through so many stumbling blocks to build a legacy, so I wouldn’t want to do something just to fit in. Because I never fit in. So..."
