L.A. County Sheriff Demands Apology for Picture Used in ‘Who Shot Biggie & Tupac?’ TV Special

It looks like Fox's new Critical Content-produced TV special, titled Who Shot Biggie & Tupac?, has just stirred up some trouble. The Hollywood Reporter recently revealed that a Los Angeles County Sheriff demanded an apology from Fox Broadcasting Company over what the local police department called a "defamatory photograph" of a commanding officer in an episode of the network's new investigative crime show.

"The program also erroneously depicted the LASD as part of the investigation by showing our employee wearing his LASD name badge and standing in front of LASD logos, and indicating several times through graphics and statements, that he was the 'Lead Investigator of [the] Biggie Murder,'" the department said in a statement demanding an apology.

A day later, Fox Broadcasting Company obliged, saying, “In Who Shot Biggie & Tupac? a photo of Los Angeles Sheriff Department Commander Steven D. Katz was mistakenly used in the program. Fox regrets the error and extends an apology to Commander Katz and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department."

THR confirms Critical Content also issued an apology. "Critical Content apologizes to Commander Steve Katz of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, whose photo was mistakenly included in last night’s airing of Who Shot Biggie and Tupac? He is not the Steven Katz of the Los Angeles Police Department mentioned in the program," reads the statement.

The two-hour special, which aired Sunday, saw Ice-T and famed journalist Soledad 'O Brien investigating the deaths of The Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur, who were both killed in drive-by shootings less than a year apart from one another.
