Kevin Gates Is Expected to be Charged for Kicking a Female Fan
Kevin Gates is charged with simple battery for kicking a female fan in the midsection at Rumor’s Nite Club last weekend, according to Billboard. TMZ reports that Lakeland, Fla. authorities are worked with the State Attorney's Office to formally charge the former XXL Freshman. On Friday (August 28) the “I Don’t Get Tired” rapper brutally kicked a female fan in the front row during a recent concert because she grabbed his pants. The show continued after the incident.
The victim, 18-year-old daughter Miranda, admitted herself to the hospital and had to undergo a CT scan after the incident. Miranda's mother, Kristy Irelan, spoke to WFLA about getting the news about her daughter. “She told me that she was excited to see him and next thing she knows she was kicked in the chest and she was passed out,” Kristy said. After seeing the video of her daughter getting kicked in the chest, the mother felt Gates action was not justified even though Miranda reached out to the rapper first.
“It pisses me off,” Irelan said. “I don’t care who you are – an NFL player, just a regular person or a rapper- you don’t come to anybody’s hometown and kick anybody- she did not deserve that.” She added: “You want to be famous, you gotta deal with it.”
A petition was started to ban Kevin Gates from performing in Florida after incident. The Change.org petition calls Gates a “disturbed rapper,” and claims the MC is “ruining the hip-hop culture and it’s strongly believed that his presence in the music industry will incite more violence.” The petition is seeking 2,500 signatures and has more than 1,700 at the moment with the plan to submit their request to Florida Gov. Rick Scott and President Barack Obama.
