It looks like there's a decent chance Kevin Gates could be getting out of prison much sooner than anyone thought. Recently, the official Illinois Department of Corrections website updated the controversial rapper's parole date to Jan. 10, 2018. In the doc, we see the status of Gates, born name Kevin Gilyard, was updated in recent days.

Gates had just finished serving a six-month sentence for kicking a fan in the chest when he had to turn himself in to authorities after pleading guilty to gun possession charges. For those, he was sentenced to 30 months in prison on April 26, 2017.

A couple months later, it was reported that Gates' projected parole date was June 22, 2018, with a projected discharge date of June 22, 2019. Now, those dates have switched to Jan. 10, 2018 and Jan. 10, 2019 respectively. Obviously, that's a huge swing. It is worth noting, the document describes Gates as being null of any tattoos, when he is clearly tatted up.

Of course, this doesn't necessarily mean Gates is getting out this January. He still has to go through the typical due processes to convince the court he's worthy of his early parole. Still, it's a light at the end of the tunnel for the acclaimed rapper whose legal issues have threatened his career since the beginning. XXL has reached out to Gates' team for comment.
