Kanye West Changes ‘Swish’ Album Title to ‘Waves’
Three must be a magic number for Kanye West. After going through two title changes for his seventh studio album, the rapper has switched things up yet again. This time he's settled on WAVES as the new title for the forthcoming LP.
'Ye made the announcement Tuesday evening (Jan. 26) using his social media microphone as of late, Twitter. "New album title, WAVES," he tweeted.
Hours before Kanye revealed the change, Travi$ Scott went emoji happy on Twitter, tweeting nothing but a guy riding a wave -- 32 times. Obviously, Travi$ knew what Yeezy was up to before he shared the news with the public. The "Antidote" rapper has already offered a few details on Kanye's work ethic while crafting WAVES. “I feel like it’s going to be like a very good fucking good album,” La Flame told Billboard. “This motherfucker is going in on this album. [He’s] not eating. [He’s] not sleeping. Shit's crazy. It’s lit. He’s just focusing on this album."
Kanye could very well drop some more jewels about his upcoming album every day this week. Just yesterday (Jan. 26), he blessed fans with the tracklist, which features 10 songs and collaborations with Kendrick Lamar, Post Malone, Ty Dolla $ign and VIc Mensa. Track No. 3 on the listing shares the same name as the newly titled album. Perhaps this is an indication he'll actually drop a G.O.O.D. Fridays track this Friday.
Before settling on WAVES, early last year, Yeezy let the world know the effort would be called So Help Me God. But since change is apparently his middle name, two months after that he decided on Swish. Now we're here with a new name, which is actually already the title of an EP released by Chicago rhymer Mick Jenkins. The 24-year-old dropped his Wave[s] project in August of last year. Jenkins took Kanye's announcement as an opportunity to show his comedic side. "New album title, SWISH," he tweeted. Looks like Yeezy just inspired Jenkins' next album.
According to 'Ye, WAVES isn't the album of the year but rather "album of the life." Are you ready for the Kanye wave on Feb. 11? Check out the tracklist and everything you need to know about the effort below.
