Kanye West Accused of Illegally Sampling Song on ‘Ye’ Album

We are just bout 24 hours removed from the release of Kanye West's new Ye album, and the project is already running into sample clearance issues. A Berlin-based record label is accusing West of using a snippet of one of their artist's tracks without permission.

The label, PAN, says Yeezy used Kareem Lotfy’s song, "Fr3sh," off their 2017 compilation album, mono no aware, in his Ye intro track, "I Thought About Killing You." And they are pissed.

“It’s sadly another case of an artist who capitalizes on culture without any original ideas and because culture trickles up, this means we are all basically working for him,” label head Bill Kouligas told Pitchfork in a statement about the matter. “Everything leads to him, he’s the ultimate narcissist.”

According to the report, the imprint is thinking of taking legal action against the Chicago rapper.

West debuted his album at a star-studded listening event in Wyoming on May 31, that took place on a ranch around a bonfire. The listening was attended by the likes of 2 Chainz, Kid Cudi, Fabolous, DJ Clue, Theophilus London, CyHi The Prynce, Lil Yachty, Nas, Desiigner, Ty Dolla $ign, Dame Dash, Big Sean, Pusha T and actors Chris Rock, Jonah Hill and more.
