Joey Purp closed the summer with a bang. The Chicago spitter on Friday (Sept. 7) dropped Quarterthing, his third solo full-length and first since 2016.

The project, executive produced by The Social Experiment's Nate Fox, Nico Segal and Peter Cottontale, showcases Purp's range, transitioning from soaring boom-bap to footwork to post-drill slaps with ease.

Nez & Rio (who laced the lead single "Bag Talk"), Teklife's DJ Taye, DJ Khalil and past collaborators Thelonious Martin, Knox Fortune and Smoko Ono contribute production. Guest vocals comes from Wu Tang's RZA and GZA, as well as fellow Chicagoans Ravyn Lenae, Jack Red, Cdot Honcho and Queen Key.

Quarterthing follows 2016's iiiDrops and Joey's debut mixtape 2012 The Purple Tape as his third extended release as a solo act. He also dropped Season in 2015 as one-half of the experimental-leaning duo Leather Corduroys with fellow SaveMoney member Kami.

The album is Purp's first release since signing a distribution deal with Caroline. He's heading on a mini-tour in support of the project starting in Chicago on Sept. 22.
