Jay Z Relaunches Music Streaming Website Tidal
Jay Z is relaunching his newly purchased high fidelity streaming site today. In support of the launch, some musical heavies have been tweeting and changing their social media profile pictures to a turquoise square. Beyoncé, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, Madonna, Coldplay, Daft Punk and others have all hopped on board.
According to Roc Nation, Hov will be giving a special message at an event in New York City tonight (March 30) where he "will announce a commitment to a new direction for the music industry from both a creative and business perspective." The streaming website features a countdown leading up to the event.
Jay Z won the $56.2 million bid for Swedish streaming company Aspiro earlier this month. Along with the purchase came Tidal and the Norwegian music platform WiMP. Taylor Swift's catalog, minus 1989, can already be found on Tidal's site.
Tidal has deals with all of the major record labels, and offers CD-quality audio and video to its users. It also has specially curated playlists and editorial. The site offers a free seven-day trial, but users have to pay $19.99 per month to continue access to the music.
The streaming site is now live in the U.S., Canada, the UK, Ireland, Finland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Italy, South Africa, Czeck Republic, Slovakia, Singapore, Denmark, Spain, Portugal, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, France, Austria, Switzerland, Hungary, Turkey, Sweden, Romania, Slovenia, Greece, Cyprus and Malta.
The service will also be launched in Poland, Australia, Hong Kong, Quatar, United Arab Emirates and Germany before the end of the second quarter 2015.
