Jay-Z Addresses Kanye West and President Trump on Meek Mill’s “What’s Free”
Update: Jay-Z has stepped forward to shoot down claims that he'd dissed Kanye West on Meek Mill's Championships song "What's Free."
"The line clearly meant don’t pit me against my brothers no matter what our differences are (red hat) now go pick up Meek album . Drake and Meek on there together," says Hov, who's got Meek signed to his Roc Nation Management.
Check out Hov's tweet below.
Original Story:
Over the last few years it seems like Jay-Z and Kanye West have definitely had their ups and downs, but more recently, the two have seemingly patched things up. So then, it came as a bit of a surprise when Jay-Z's latest verse, this one on a new Meek Mill song, sees the rapper serving up what many believe is a Kanye West diss.
Last night (Nov. 30), Meek Mill dropped his Championships album, a project that sees him bring Hov and Rick Ross together once again for their collaborative effort "What's Free." During his concluding verse, the "Apeshit" rapper appears to open up about Kanye West's support of President Donald Trump.
"No red hat, don't Michael and Prince me and Ye," Hov raps. "They separate you when you got Michael and Prince's DNA/I ain't one of these house niggas you bought/My house like a resort, my house bigger than yours/My spou- C'mon man/My route better of course."
Hov and 'Ye having been trying to work out their issues for the past year after the "I Love It" rapper called out Jay and Bey in a rant in 2016, and left Tidal over a money dispute. Jay held his tongue until he dropped his 4:44 album and called Yeezy out on "Kill Jay-Z." Though things reached a low, the two had been on better terms over the last year, with Jay admitting that he and 'Ye were still cool. Still, that didn't stop the internet from speculating that Hov had dissed Yeezy.
That said, some on the internet have suggested that Jay-Z's bars weren't a Kanye diss at all, and that they were actually meant to suggest that people shouldn't put Black men of differing beliefs against each other. Maybe Hov will open up about this in the future.
Elsewhere on "What's Free," Rick Ross comes through with his own dose of shade. After claiming that he's been the top dawg before the D. Dots, the MMG boss appears to express his thoughts on 6ix9ine and his current legal turmoil towards the ends of his verse.
"Screaming 'gang gang' now you wanna rap/Racketeering charges caught him on a tap," Rozay raps. "Lookin' for a bond lawyers wanna tax/Purple hair got them faggots on your back."
Meek Mill's first album since his release from jail also holds features from Drake, Cardi B, Anuel AA, Fabolous, Future, Kodak Black, Young Thug, Ella Mai, 21 Savage and more.
