HXLT Hands Out a Beatdown in “Perfect” Video

HXLT takes part in bare-knuckle boxing in his new video for "Perfect."

The four-minute clip follows the G.O.O.D Music signee from the locker room before the fight, to trading jabs with his opponent, to finally delivering a knockout blow. Though he wins his fight and is hoisted up by fans in victory, HXLT doesn't seem at all in a celebratory mood. The visual is raucous and gory, but HXLT's music is far from dark. Instead, his voice rings somber and steady throughout the song.

"Perfect" is the next single off HXLT's self-titled debut album, which dropped Feb. 23. When XXL caught up with Chicago's own for The Break, he explained that the inspiration for the video hits close to home.

"I used to street fight for money." HXLT explained. "I got into a fight and the guy I fought, his friends were there and they were like, “Hey we do this.” And this was around the time that Fight Club the movie was out and I ran into some kids that were into that stuff basically, and they were like, “Hey, you want to fight?” and then you bet. So I’d come through with like a brick, a grand, and then they bet and whoever wins obviously gets the money. Five Gs is the most I’ve ever won. Yeah, I was basically just being a crazy 20-year-old."

Fresh off his debut, HXLT is looking to make a splash with dates at SXSW in Austin, Texas and a national tour this month.
