10 Other Rappers That Were Arrested In Their Cars
Earlier this week, news broke that Chicago up-and-comer Lil Reese was arrested in his hometown while snoozing in his car. Although it turned out that the car aspect of the story was incidental to the actual arrest—Reese was actually knocked for battery and trespassing charges—the news got us thinking about how automobiles have factored into other artists' arrests. Now, XXL has put together a list of 10 rappers who went from behind the wheel to behind bars.
DMX
Charge: Driving Without a License
While it's definitely one of his more "minor" charges in the grand scheme of things, X found himself locked up when he was pulled over in South Carolina this past February and found to be driving without a license. DMX got off relatively easy in the case, as he was released by a judge five hours later.
T.I.
Charge: Drug Possession
Fresh out of jail from gun charges, T.I. found himself locked up once again in 2010 after he and his wife were pulled over. After noticing the smell of marijuana emanating from the vehicle, LAPD found ecstasy and methamphetamines, resulting in Tip serving another 11 months in the bing.
Flo Rida
Charge: DUI
Resident fist-bump rapper Flo Rida found himself on the foul side of the law in 2011 when he was picked up in Miami with a DUI. Flo was ultimately ordered to take alcohol education classes and partake in mandatory community service.
Tone Loc
Charge: DUI (Later Revealed to be Seizure)
In 2011, Tone Loc was booked in Los Angeles in what police believed was initially a case of driving under the influence. However, it was later revealed that the "Wild Thing" rapper was reportedly suffering from seizure-like symptoms behind the wheel.
Joe Budden
Charge: Parking Tickets
Believe it or not, you can actually get arrested for not paying your parking tickets. Don't believe me? Ask Joe Budden: Last year, Jersey Joe was detained by 5-0 before a Slaughterhouse concert for neglecting to pay his parking tickets.
Lil Flip
Charge: Drugs and Guns Possession
Houston's Lil Flip caught a double-whammy last December when an initial speeding ticket led to his arrest for possession of illegal narcotics and firearms. After he was initially pulled over, police searched his vehicle and found marijuana and an AR-15 assault rifle. Apparently, that machine gun that Flip was toting would've been legal, too, if he weren't already a convicted felon.
Prodigy
Charge: Gun Possession
Prodigy caught a major charge in 2006 when NYPD found a firearm in his possession after they pulled the QB rapper over for making an illegal U-turn. While most anyone with a driver's license has probably made an illegal U-turn at least once, this one resulted in P spending three-and-a-half years in prison, as convicted felons aren't allowed to carry weapons.
Mister Cee
Charge: Lewd Conduct and Public Exposure
The legendary DJ behind Big Daddy Kane and the Notorious B.I.G. found himself in trouble with the boys in blue in 2011 when he was arrested after he was caught engaging in a sexual act with a young male in his car. Cee later plead guilty to the charges in a New York court.
Krayzie Bone
Charge: DUI and Driving Without a License
The Bones have had their fair share of run-ins with the law, but the lovable Krayzie Bone was always pretty low-key, until a 2012 misstep when he drove through L.A. last year while under the influence and without his license. He didn't get any jail-time for the slip up—just alcohol education classes—but we can all agree this was a Krayzie move for the Bone Thug.
Ras Kass
Charge: DUI
In 2002, Ras Kass left a party at a friend's house in L.A. and was likely getting his swerve (word to Big Sean) on, because a cop pulled him over and arrested him on charges of driving under the influence. Kass was sentenced to three years and served 19 months of his sentence. Later, Razzy rapped on "Shine (Vis-a-Vis)" that he actually spent time "in the hole with Robert Downey Jr." during this period.
