Today, Nov. 8, marks the 39th birthday of Brooklyn rapper Shyne. Best known for his time at Bad Boy Records in the late 1990s, the Belizean-born rapper has had a notable career marked with setbacks but remains one of hip-hop's most recognizable rappers of his era despite the adversity.

The Brooklyn-raised MC was convicted of criminal possession of a weapon, assault and reckless endangerment for his involvement in 1999’s notorious Club New York shooting. Luckily enough, he was found not guilty of attempted murder. However, Shyne served close to nine years in prison, and upon his release in 2009, was deported to Belize. Even though he's in exile of the U.S., Shyne's luxurious lifestyle in Belize is on full display on his Instagram.

Happy Birthday, Shyne!
