G Perico Flexes With “If I Ruled the World” and “So Into You” Freestyles
The West Coast has been surging in hip-hop for years now, and G Perico is one of the newer names from the The Golden State proving he's got a style all his own. This week, the rhymer kicks off his G-Styles series (his version of a freestyle) and decides to take it to Queens and rap over the instrumental to one of Nas' many can't-miss tracks, "If I Ruled the World," in addition to the classic Tamia song "So Into You."
G kicks off "If I Ruled the World" with gritty imagery like, "Imaginary lines in the city, divide you from your enemy/Skinny nigga doing drive-bys, out an Infiniti." He sets the scene further with "Sniffing coke and sippin' lean/They at your door, ding ding."
For his turn on "So Into You," G kicks street stories over the R&B classic. "Fuck the lame shit,1-10 lane switch/Pour out a little Yak, his brother brains missin'/Oh you losin'? I ain't sorry to hear it/If it ain't one of my niggas, then it aint none of my business," he spits.
The Left Coast spitter has been putting in a lot of work over the last year. In 2017 alone, he released three different projects. His first drop of that year was All Blue, which debuted around the time he signed a record deal with Priority. In September, he released G-Worthy, an EP combining the talents of Jay Worthy, Cardo and G himself. Then he wrapped up the year with his most recent album, 2 Tha Left, and hit the road for a tour of the same name.
Early on in his career, G Perico spoke to XXL about what he wants for himself when it's all said and done. “My goal in music is to build an audience and a legacy," he said. "I want to be one of them muthafuckas that you can play 30 years from now and it will still sound fresh and still be tight. I want to last forever; solidify my face and my art."
