Freddie Gibbs and G-Wiz Talk About “Friends” on New Track

Freddie Gibbs links up with G-Wiz and BJ the Chicago Kid for "Friends," a soulful new Ill Brown-produced ode to friends from the past and present. You can peep the track for yourself below.

Gibbs handles the first verse with some vulnerable, but pretty hard-edged bars about friendship. Throughout his 16, the Indiana rapper reminisces about the time he spent with one of his friends who died too young. "I look around and wonder where all my real niggas went," he raps toward the end of his verse. "Victim of violence, moment of silence/Let me reminisce," he continues.

That's when BJ the Chicago comes through with the hook, which is essentially a more soulful version of Whodini's timeless "Friends." "Friends," the Chicago crooner belts out in the first part of the hook. "How many of us have them?"

G-Wiz also turns in a pretty dope verse, touching on the times he and his crew have been down with each other over the years. We don't know too much about him, but he more than holds his own with these two more established stars.

"Friends is all set to appear on Ill Brown's upcoming EP titled Don't Forget The Dope, which features unreleased tracks from Dom Kennedy, Casey Veggies,Slim Thug, Bun B, Chris Rivers, Oswin Benjamin and SkyZoo and is set to be released this fall. Keep it locked with XXL for more updates.
