Fetty Wap Lost His Eye Because Of Congenital Glaucoma
Quieting months of rumors and speculation, New Jersey's Fetty Wap has finally addressed the origins of his missing eye. In an interview with Shade 45's DJ Self, the "Trap Queen" rapper explained that his condition is the result of congenital glaucoma stemming from an accident when he was a child. Most of all, Fetty was grateful; the accident very easily could have taken both of his eyes, and with them his vision. "The doctor saved one," he said. "I was blessed to still have my vision." The eye he wears is a prosthesis, he says, rather than a contact lens as some have speculated.
Perhaps the explanation was unnecessary: As Fetty told XXL last November, the whispers don't really bother him. "I’m probably one of the first rappers/singers to come on the scene with [only] one eye and be comfortable with it," he said. "A lot of people are judgmental but it’s all on how you show yourself to the people. That’s probably one of the main things people won’t know about me until they see me."
Fetty Wap has had quite the six-month run, his Next Up mixtape making waves around the rap world. He can count among his fans Rihanna, who recently told i-D Magazine that "Trap Queen" was her most recent digital music purchase.
