Eminem and Redman Exchange Praise in On Air Interview
It was a love fest over at Shade 45 yesterday as Redman, who was guesting on The All Out Show, got an unexpected call. Eminem phoned in when he heard the Funk Doc was stopping by to share a story with the rapper, who he's publicly said is on of his favorites.
“A couple of weeks ago, I was cleaning out my closet — pun intended — and ran across this old picture, and I was like, ’What the fuck is this?,'" Em said. "I realized, the first time I ever went to New York — I actually went to New York and then we went to Jersey — me and Bizarre went to record with the Outsidaz, And we had actually ended up stopping by your house. So I’m like, ’Oh, shit! That’s the picture I took out the back window of your house.’ On some fan shit. You know, it was like, ’Holy shit! That’s Redman’s house.’ I had my little automatic, instant camera and took the picture and shit. I’m like, fuck, I forgot I did that.”
Redman, moved by the story and Eminem's words, agreed to sign the photo and hand over any other memorabilia that might add to Em's stash.
"I catch flack for saying you're ranked up there with Biggie, Jay-Z, Nas" Red said of his appreciation for Em before extending an invitation to feature on his next album. "That Muddy Waters album is what I'm doing next and possibly I can get another track for you."
Eminem said he was on board, and that he's been making music. Em's last album, The Marshall Mathers LP 2, released two years ago. When Eminem ranked his favorite rappers in "Till I Collapse," he named Redman ("Reggie") first, so the appreciation is genuine. The two artists last collaborated on "Off the Wall" from the Nutty Professor II: The Klumps soundtrack.
