Dave East held a candlelit vigil in New York City in memory of Nipsey Hussle on Monday night (April 1).

The pair had been close before Nipsey's life was taken on Sunday (March 31), and have collaborated on songs in the past, including on the 2016 Nipsey cut, "Clarity." Prior to the vigil, Dave announced the meetup on his Instagram page, inviting fans to come out and show their support.

"If You In The NYC Area Come Show Cuzo Some Love This Was Really My Friend Fucc Rap!!!!!" Dave wrote with a flyer. "LOVE U CRIP."

The event was held in downtown Manhattan, and it included fans of all ages and all races, coming together to pay tribute to the fallen rapper. In a video recap posted on Tuesday morning (April 2), Dave once again showed love to his longtime friend.

"Have One Rolled When I See U Cuz 😢 Till Next Time NAYBAHOOD NIP..." he said in the caption for the post.

Speaking at the gathering, East spoke on the legacy of Nip while lamenting the rapper's death. "A sucker took out a king," he said.

While Dave's vigil went down on the East Coast-West Coast fans flocked to Nipsey's retail store and the place he lost his life, The Marathon, to pay their respects. Unfortunately, that resulted in chaos, as LAPD confirmed Tuesday that a man brandished a gun (though there was no evidence he'd intended to shoot it), and a scuffle ensued when another individual attempted to disarm him.

A stampede then occurred as the crowd attempted to flee the area. Many suffered injuries as a result of the stampede. South Carolina news outlet WTLX 19 is reporting that two people are in critical condition as a result of their injuries.

Police have since identified 29-year-old Eric Holder as the murder suspect. Anyone with information is urged to call South Bureau Homicide Detectives at 323-786-5100.
