On Wednesday (Dec. 20), the world of hip-hop lost one of its most revered historians when Reggie Ossé, known more popularly as Combat Jack, passed away after being diagnosed with colon cancer this past fall. He was 53.

In his time in the industry, Jack worked as an attorney, an editor at The Source Magazine and then, as the host of his own podcast, the transformational Combat Jack Show. Having participated in so many sectors of the rap game, Combat Jack helped shape the careers of many, and now, tenants of the rap game have come forth to pay tribute to the legacy of one of its most storied curators.

For her part, Nitty Scott took a moment to remember the positive energy the famed podcaster put forth into the world. "[Wow] I can’t even believe what I’m reading right now. rest in power to my longtime homie combat jack. we’ve lost a true, irreplaceable hip-hop pioneer. my heart is heavy," Scott wrote in one tweet. "Reggie Osse was one of the first people to support me in this game. a GEM dropper, legal beast, the culture incarnate. and his energy was love, all the time. I would hug this man & just feel the love," she continued in another.

Joe Budden also gave thanks to the late hip-hop luminary. "Rest In Peace to the Legendary Combat Jack," wrote Joey. "And thank you for everything." That's just the tip of the iceberg.
