Chance The Rapper continues his Coloring Book summer, following up a Billboard cover and word of his own Magnificent Coloring Day music festival with a performance of "Summer Friends" on Good Morning America Monday morning (Aug. 15). Joined by Peter Cottontale and Francis Starlite, Chance gives an understated performance of the mellow track, emphasizing at the end that he always brings his friends up.

Before the performance, Chance spoke with GMA host Robin Roberts both in a prerecorded feature and a live studio interview. The two talked about Chance's fusion of hip-hop and gospel, with the Chicago rapper saying,"All my music to a certain extent is about freedom…if you’re not free to speak about god you’re not free," and his decision to to stay independent.  “I think the music industry is something that’s very separate from the music," he said, "so by always staying on the music side of it, I found success.”

He as well spoke on his ESPYs performance in which he delivered an original Muhammad Ali tribute. “Since I was young, I always felt a very close connection to him…to be up there with his face behind me and also being able to give glory to god and give glory to him and console his family, it was one of the best moments I’ve ever had," he said. As for President Barack Obama's summer playlist which features Chance's "Acid Rain," Chano says, "I had no idea, I didn’t see that coming. And probably the coolest playlist I’ve ever been included in." Watch the interview clips below with Chance's performance up top.
