Tapping a skilled artist or graphic designer is a route many rappers are taking these days to create the most appealing visual for their album covers. Although the tactic is nothing new, there's been a recent resurgence in cartoon-like, illustrated cover art. Just today (March 24), Action Bronson and Big Pooh both released new projects, Mr. Wonderful and Words Paint Pictures with illustrated imagery as the symbols for their music.

Some cover art illustrations have a beautiful, dream-like emphasis. Some are goofy drawings showing a picture of someone of something that couldn't be made with just a photo. Either way, these cartoon album covers set the tone of the music that unfolds between the hinge of the CD case. It's quite literally art complementing art.

Check out some of the most recent illustrated cover art the rap world has released.
