Anderson .Paak made a significant number of year end lists with his January release Malibu, his band The Free Nationals appearing on "Lite Weight," touring the album with him and appearing on Ellen, NPR's Tiny Desk Concert and more with the singer. It's clear that together, they make beautiful music, and .Paak was excited to share news on Instagram Tuesday (Jan. 10) that The Free Nationals will be releasing a solo EP in the new year.

"2017 will bring a whole lot of amazing music your way," .Paak wrote below a preview of what's to come from the band, what is presumably an instrumental album. "One of the projects I am most excited for is this @freenationals LP tho!!" He as well tagged the post with #obituaries, what seems a likely contender for the project's title.

Word of the upcoming EP comes just a day after .Paak and Flyling Lotus confirmed on Twitter that they have at least one song's worth of new music on the way. “It exists. Soon!” FLyLo wrote in response to a fan's request for the track. “They not ready!!!” .Paak added.

The singer will surely be one of the most watched artists in the new year. He is nominated for two Grammy Awards including Best New Artist, with his collaborative duo NxWorries with Knxwledge still fresh off an October release of their Yes Lawd! album. A video for "Sidepiece" dropped earlier this week.
