There are two types of people in the world: those who fall victim to the struggle and those who push through and find the beauty in it. Jacksonville, Fla.'s Yungeen Ace falls into the latter category, and his story is a true testament to defying the odds and staying loyal under pressure. Ace touches on the obstacles he's faced in a new freestyle for XXL's What I Do series.

"I done been through too much in my life, and this shit just gettin' harder, ay," he spits.

Prior to June 5, Ace was just another rapper working towards his big break. That Tuesday, however, his life was altered forever after he, his brother and best friends were shot while exiting a steakhouse in his hometown. The 20-year-old rapper survived after getting hit eight times, while his brother, Tre'von Bullard, and close confidants' Royale D’Von Smith Jr. and Jercoby Da’Shad Groover succumbed to their injuries.

To make matters worse, Yungeen Ace, born Keyanta Bullard, was arrested immediately after he was released from the hospital. Police found a gun in the vehicle from the night of the shooting and brought in Ace for violating his probation, which stems from a 2017 case. He was later released and was given a court-ordered ankle monitor until a future court date.

Despite the horrific incidents that have taken place in his life in the past year, Yungeen Ace refuses to fold. "You gotta watch who you around/You could swim but you might drown/When I told you that I needed you, you turned your back around," he raps, referring to a friend-turned-foe. "All the shit that we done did, I'm takin' to the grave/Foldin' on my brotha', that wasn't how a nigga raised."

Yesterday (Oct. 24), the rapper turned himself in for the probation violation. In his last Instagram post, Ace appears to take it all in stride as he talks about the bid. "Dey say nun last forever #FreeMe," he captioned the clip.

On Aug. 2, the "Demons" rapper released his debut tape, Life of Betrayal. The 13-track tape, with assistance from YoungBoy Never Broke Again and JayDaYoungan, is an introspective look at a young man whose simply attempting to live his life despite the bad hand he's been dealt. When he gets out, Yungeen plans on dropping his second track with Lil Baby, which he renamed "Me and My Niggas." Their first collab, "Do It," with Tokyo Jetz, dropped in September.
