XXXTentacion's father Dwayne Onfroy has stayed relatively quiet in the months following his son's fatal shooting in June, but he shared thoughts on Jahseh's teenage years in a new interview with Miami's WPLG published Thursday (Sept. 20).

The elder Onfroy currently lives in Jamaica and was reportedly incarcerated for much of the rapper's life. In the interview, he expressed regret that he wasn't around to serve as a father figure while his son matured.

"He developed his own rules. He developed his own way of looking at life because now his teenage years are coming on. Who's the male role model?" he said. "Who's the male figure that's going to show him how a boy is supposed to behave at 13? ... Who's gonna teach him how to play football or soccer or basketball? Who's gonna teach him sporting activities? Who's gonna show him how to speak to women?"

X's father added, "He would get phone calls. That's not enough."

XXXTentacion's teenage years were troubled but also saw his rise to fame. He released his first EP, The Fall, at the age of 16 after being released from juvenile detention, where he was detained for gun possession charges. His breakout commercial projects Revenge and 17 dropped three years later amid charges for false imprisonment and aggravated battery against his then-pregnant girlfriend.

The rapper was shot and killed on June 18 in an apparent robbery outside a motorsports dealership in Deerfield Beach, Fla. Four suspects have been indicted for their alleged roles in the shooting and are currently in pre-trial proceedings.

A song featuring XXXTentacion and late rapper Lil Peep titled "Falling Down," co-written by ILoveMakonnen, was released on Wednesday. The track is X's first posthumous release as a lead artist.
