Vic Mensa Delivers Epic Freestyle Over Self-Produced Beat
Vic Mensa plays no games when it comes to impromptu rhyme sessions. That's a point the dynamic Chicago wordsmith made once again when he stopped by Power 106's L.A. Leakers to deliver an epic freestyle this past Wednesday (June 27). In an interesting twist, Vic says he also produced the beat, which includes an amazing sample from En Vogue's 1997 single, "Don't Let Go."
Stepping up to a seat next to L.A. Leakers hosts DJ Sourmilk and Justin Credible, Vic wastes no time firing off spurts of clever wordplay.
"Southside to the South of France, I just got off a flight from Cannes/A couple weeks before I was on a plane to Japan/I'm rocking Louis, but I'm Gucci—shout to Dapper Dan/ Just bought a crib in a white hood, I ain't talking 'bout the Klan/Fuck a hit single, I'm a million-dollar man/They wipe away with waves like castles made of sand," raps the Roc Nation rhymer, who notes that he's also cooked up more beats we haven't heard.
If you haven't been keeping score, this is far from the first time Vic has bodied a hard instrumental. Last July, the 25-year-old pulled up to Sway in the Morning and obliterated Kendrick Lamar's ""HiiiPower" instrumental. That September, he visited Funkmaster Flex on Hot 97 to kill N.O.R.E.'s "Banned From TV" instrumental. This guy is serious behind a mic, and this freestyle is just the latest example of that fact.
