Vic Mensa Signs to Roc Nation

Though on Tidal subscribers are privy to the full video of the young Chicago rapper's contract signing, the word is out for the public at large: Vic Mensa has signed to Roc Nation. Vic first made a national name for himself after his friend and collaborator Chance the Rapper dropped Acid Rap in 2013 and landing on the 2014 XXL Freshmen cover; since then, he has expanded his palate beyond hip-hop. Working closely with producers like Kaytranada, Vic has crafted as series of festival-ready singles that should serve him well at his new home. Then, of course, there is the ongoing collaboration with Kanye West. Vic is featured on "Wolves," the first song on the elder Chicagoan's forthcoming So Help Me God; the two also linked up for "U Mad." The latter song is now available for purchase through iTunes and other digital retailers.

Roc Nation was founded in 2008 as part of Jay Z's then-unprecedented deal with promotion giant Live Nation. In addition to releasing Hov's own Blueprint 3 and Magna Carta Holy Grail--not to mention his collaboration with Kanye West, Watch The Throne--the imprint is responsible for full-lengths from J. Cole, Alexis Jodran, Hugo and Rita Ora. Also a management company, Roc Nation is responsible for guiding the careers of rappers like Wale and Big Sean, as well as producers and artists from other genres, including DJ Mustard and HAIM.
