Travis Scott “Stop Trying to Be God” Video: Kylie Jenner Stars as a Gold Goddess
After finally releasing his long-awaited Astroworld album, Travis Scott now shares the video for "Stop Trying to Be God."
Released on Monday (Aug. 6), the Dave Meyers-directed visual is full of religious imagery as La Flame walks among sheep in the beginning of the video. The Houston rapper is then engulfed in flames before being held by girlfriend Kylie Jenner. But the religious symbolism doesn't stop there.
Later in the "Stop Trying to Be God" video, a bearded Scott appears in the sky and later baptizes his followers in the water. Near the end of the video, the rapper is burned to ashes and disappears before co-songwriter James Blake shows up. A gold-covered Jenner then reappears, holding a baby lamb as the video ends.
One of the most star-studded tracks on Astroworld, the J Beatzz, Travis Scott and Mike Dean-produced "Stop Trying to Be God" features additional vocals from Phillip Bailey, James Blake and Kid Cudi, as well as harmonica by the legendary Stevie Wonder.
The rest of Astroworld, which was released on Aug. 3, includes appearances from Frank Ocean, Drake, Swae Lee, Sheck Wes, Juice Wrld, The Weeknd, Pharrell, 21 Savage, Gunna, Nav, Quavo and more.
Following the release of the highly-anticipated project, Scott ran into a bit of controversy when transgender model Amanda Lepore was removed from the album cover. The rapper eventually cleared the air in the mix-up, saying he meant no disrespect to the LGBTQ community and revealing that photos of Lepore would be included in the album's booklet.
“Yo Amanda you did upstage everyone even me and I can’t wait for everyone to see the booklet that me and Dave put together that includes all these images,” he said. “Thank you for being apart of it. Sorry for the misunderstanding love you guys and thank you all. Everyone is welcome to Astroworld.”
