If you know who Suge Knight is, chances are you're at least passingly familiar with his current legal woes. Earlier this year, on the set of the N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton, Knight--the founder of Death Row Records who was portrayed in the film by R. Marcos Taylor--got into an altercation that would alter the course of his life. Suge's issues with the actor Cle "Bone" Sloan spilled over to the parking lot of a Compton restaurant, where he would hit both Sloan and a man named Terry Carter. Sloan would not only live, but refuse to testify against Knight; Carter died, and his wife has named Knight, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and others in a wrongful death suit. But now that the film is out (to the tune of $60.2 million in its opening week and the top box-office spot, ahead of Marvel's Fantastic Four), Knight's camp is none too pleased. His chief legal counsel, Thomas Mesereau, told TheWrap that while Suge wouldn't be allowed to see the movie while in jail, Mesereau had seen it and called it "exaggerated and silly and ridiculous."

The film depicts Knight as a ruthless, indiscriminately violent man, an image very much in line with the stories about him that have circulated since the mid-1990s. In one scene, his character assaults a Death Row employee for mistakenly taking Knight's parking spot. The latest news concerning his case has centered on his health; last month it was reported that the 55-year-old may be suffering from a brain tumor.
