The city of Philadelphia became the music capital of the world on Saturday (June 4) when the 9th Annual Roots Picnic took place at Penn’s Landing Festival Pier. The lineup at the  Roots Picnic this year was amazing, featuring acts both young and old.

To say that Penn’s Landing Festival Pier was packed was an understatement and if the immense crowds are an indicator of the event's growing popularity, it's pretty evident that the festival's New York show will be even bigger when it arrives in October. The South and Oasis stage were probably too close to each other given the amount of people attending but that was probably the only negative moment of the day. Everything else was well worth the ticket price. From noon to 11:30 p.m., music lovers were basically in heaven.

As concertgoers arrived at Christopher Columbus Boulevard and walked through the entrance, they got to hear a diverse collection of new acts. Chloe X Halle and Lolawolf were fantastic early on but the highlight for the first half of the show was Willow Smith. She brought out her father, Will Smith, and DJ Jazzy Jeff to perform “Summertime” in front of their hometown crowd. It was easily one of the best moments of the day because The Fresh Prince and Jazzy Jeff haven't performed together in Philly in years.

Things got kicked up a notch when fans had a difficult decision to make: either watch Anderson .Paak with his band The Free Nationals, Migos or Lil Dicky (or all three if they were up for it). All of the acts performed their respective hits from their latest projects. Anderson, who's always a good live performer, ran through singles from his Malibu album, Migos went through a bevy of their trap records such as "Look at My Dab" and plenty more while Lil Dicky was onstage performing his viral hits off his newest album, Professional Rapper.

Up next, Kehlani and Jidenna both had killer sets but young fans flocked to the Oasis Stage to catch Lil Uzi Vert's set. It was high energy, over-the-top and included an appearance from Meek Mill -- and Nicki Minaj -- who joined Uzi onstage. This was a huge moment for the young fella and a cool moment to see Meek, who's currently still on house arrest.

More than halfway into the festival, the energy in the crowd never dropped. It actually doubled as an influx of people came in around 5 p.m. to check out the individual sets of DMX, Swizz Beatz and Metro Boomin. When Future came on though, more than half of the festival ran to the North stage to watch the Freebandz boss. Things were going smooth until sound trouble cut Future's set to about 15 minutes. Fortunately, Kaytranada was performing around the same time. He performed tracks from his new album, 99.9%, in full and it was amazing.

Usher and The Roots closed out the day with an epic two-hour performance that was filled with nothing but hits. The singer performed every song that you could imagine from his lauded catalog of hits and even brought out Lil Jon to do "Yeah."

It was magical. This year's Roots Picnic was one of the best festivals in recent years and the exhaustion was well worth it.

With The Roots Picnic expanding to New York City on October 1 and 2 in Bryant Park, the future is bright for the popular festival.
