Lids Fitted Class Logo

What are you known for in the fitted hat community? Most people know me for the Heroes Pack. All Vegas gold crowns, super simple. All logos that I use, all whites. I would take them around the country to sell them at pop-up shops.

How did you get into fitted hats? I’ve been making hats since 2005. There were always hats that I wanted, but it wasn’t around, so I just figured I’d make it. That’s what I always been doing, make hats that I want to wear first, then people would actually like it, and just go from there. I was at a store called Leaders in Chicago, so we did apparel, we made our own Leaders branded hats. Those always get really good.

And then, after I left the shop, I was making my hats for my brand, and one day, was like, I want to make a couple team hats, because I didn’t make one in a while, and I made one, and it’s just been going on from there.

What makes a great fitted hat? Wearability. It’s something I can wear forever. When I make my hat, to kind of think into the future, I want to be able to wear this hat now until forever, so I won’t feel like I wasted my money. I design to make people feel like when they wear these, they can buy ’em and not feel like they wasted money five years after they bought a trendy hat. I like to make classics.

What’s the most valuable hat you have? Simple black White Sox hat. Gray on the visor. World Series patch. [For one I designed], it was a Brooklyn Dodgers Hero set. Vegas gold, blue visor, green on the visor, red button and the 50th anniversary set. It was probably the one that was selling for $700 at one point.

Why are fitted hats important to fashion and personal style? I like the fit; it just molds your hair, and it’s not a snap. It doesn’t have that opening in the back, and it just looks better than just having a dad cap on. It’s just classic. My reasons for liking them was because I wanted to wear the hat that the people on the [baseball] field wore.

How have fitteds played a role in hip-hop culture? I remember seeing Eazy-E wearing an all-black wool Raiders hat. And I just thought that little, cool Ice Cube wore the White Sox hat... They even did a whole documentary on the White Sox and the power of N.W.A and Ice Cube and everything wearing the hats.

I don’t think it was just important to hip-hop. It’s just important to the culture. The fitted hat is just a staple. It’s like putting on a T-shirt. Everybody has one. You kind of need one.
