Raekwon is gearing up to release his new mixtape, Brink Boyz Presents: Cocainism Vol. 2, set to drop on XXLMag.com tomorrow (May 28). We sat down with The Chef yesterday at the project’s listening session, to talk about the tape, his new track with Mobb Deep and he reasoning for putting out the disc so close to Memorial Weekend

His first official project since September 2009’s acclaimed Only Built 4 Cuban Linx…Pt. II, Rae felt it was time to give the people more new music. “I just felt like I had to put something out there again,” he told XXL. “I felt like, Memorial Day Weekend is coming up, I wanted to be prepared for this and have something to give out, just to let people know that ain’t nothin’ changed and we still throwing out a lotta product.”

The release is not feature heavy, mostly showcasing Rae’s lyrical prowess. However, there are select guest spots, including Tommy Nova, one of Raekwon’s young artists, and Mobb Deep.

“It’s called ‘Road to the Riches,’” the Wu rep said of his collabo with the classic Queens duo. “These are my dudes. We’ve been through so much together, at the end of the day, I just felt like these are the dudes I’ve been getting it in with and I wanted to have them on it. Alchemist is a good friend of mine, so me and him decided to make sure we have something prepared with them cats on it, cause he knows how I feel about them. So we made calls and reached out to dudes and it was a go.”

In addition to spitting over Alchemist beats, Raekwon goes in on production from DJ Scatch, as well as his in house producer, BT.
