According to TMZ, R. Kelly entered a not guilty plea during a court appearance in New York City. Kelly faces a five-count indictment from the U.S.' Eastern District of New York court, and he's reportedly expected to be in jail until his next hearing on Tuesday (July 16).

Singer R. Kelly has been arrested in Chicago by NYPD detectives and Homeland Security Investigators on federal sex crime charges, according to a report from NBC New York. The news was reportedly confirmed to the outlet by two separate law enforcement officials.

Although R. Kelly's attorney, Steve Greenberg, asserts that the indictments Kelly faces are related to cases from the past, sources tell the outlet that the indictments were handed down in Brooklyn and Chicago, and there is no victim overlap.

One new, 13-count indictment issued by Northern District of Illinois Kelly faces was handed down on Thursday night. The charges for that indictment include child pornography, enticement of a minor and obstruction of justice. The second includes charges of sex trafficking and more.

In a report TMZ published on Friday morning (July 12), the site claims federal documents allege that Kelly and his team traveled the country to recruit minors and coerce them into performing sex acts on camera in an effort to "promote R. Kelly's music and the R. Kelly brand and to recruit women and girls to engage in illegal sexual activity with Kelly."

This news comes more than a month after the embattled R&B singer pleaded not guilty to 11 felony charges related to sexual assault and various abuse in Illinois on June 6. For that case, the Cook County State's Attorney's Office charged Kelly with five counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, four counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault and two counts of criminal sexual assault. Kelly faces 30 years in prison for each count of the aggravated criminal sexual assault charges.
