Rappers such as Eminem, G-Eazy and Macklemore have all been successful in hip-hop, but if you ask Post Malone, there are difficulties that come with being a White rapper.

In an interview with GQ, the "Rockstar" artist was asked if he ever feels anxious working in a primarily Black-identified genre of music. "I definitely feel like there's a struggle being a White rapper," Post said.

"But I don't want to be a rapper," he continued. "I just want to be a person that makes music. I make music that I like, and I think that kicks ass, that I think people who fuck with me as a person and as an artist will like."

The Syracuse, N.Y.-born, Dallas-bred rhymer was also asked if he sees that it's political to be a Black rapper, to which he replied, "Yeah, yeah! I mean, shit." And when asked if he recognizes that there are separate struggles that go along with race, Post responded, "Yeah, of course."

When it comes to the Stoney artist discussing hip-hop, his comments have been known to land him in hot water. In November, Post said to look for another genre if you're looking to cry or think about life. "Don't listen to hip-hop," he said.

"There's great hip-hop songs where they talk about life and they really spit that real shit, but right now, you know, there's not a lot of people talking about shit," Post added. "Whenever I wanna cry, whenever I wanna sit down and have a nice cry, I'll listen to some, like, Bob Dylan."

Post eventually apologized for his comments, saying he was just bringing up his personal tastes and proclaimed his love for the genre.
